Waubonsee's Vitiello Named NJCAA All-American

Lauren Vitiello becomes first Lady Chiefs' softball player to ever be named an NJCAA All-American.

Waubonsee Community College's Lauren Vitiello was named a 2011 NJCAA Softball Second Team All-American. She is the first Lady Chiefs’ softball player to ever earn that distinction. The sophomore from South Elgin batted .413 with a school-record 67 runs batted in. The left-handed power hitter smacked a Waubonsee record 12 home runs to break Sara Rose’s mark of 10 set last season. Vitiello averaged a home run every 15.75 at bats to go along with ripping 17 doubles and 78 hits on the season. In addition, the Lady Chiefs’ first baseman scored 41 runs, had a .457 on-base percentage and posted a .987 fielding percentage. Vitiello also went 16-6 with a 2.19 earned-run-average overall as a pitcher on the season. She struck out 118 batters and walked 37 in 163 innings pitched.

Vitiello was tabbed All-Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference First Team after helping lead the Lady Chiefs to the conference title with an 11-1 record. She was selected to the All-Region First Team as a key contributor to Waubonsee winning a school-record 42 games and a garnering a second seed in the Region IV Division II District B Tournament. In addition Vitiello was named to the Region IV All-Tournament team after helping propel the Lady Chiefs to the championship game and a runner-up finish. She will continue her collegiate playing career at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.
