More Than 850 Receive Degrees from Waubonsee

Lt. Gov. Sheila Simon delivered the commencement address at Waubonsee as part of her Complete College Tour.

As Illinois Lieutenant Governor Sheila Simon looked on, Waubonsee Community College awarded degrees to 864 graduates at its 2011 commencement ceremony on Thursday, May 19. The class of 2011 is the college’s largest ever.  

The degrees awarded include 620 transfer-oriented associate degrees, 213 Associate in Applied Science degrees (in 35 different career areas) and 31 Associate in General Studies degrees. 

On campus as part of her Complete College Tour, Lt. Gov. Simon delivered the evening’s commencement address, highlighting the individual success stories of several Waubonsee graduates.

“Your commitment to education is inspiring,” Lt. Gov. Simon said. “Illinois is a stronger state thanks to your dedication and learning.”

Since its first graduating class in 1968, Waubonsee has conferred 17,478 degrees to local students.
