Come out to the Sugar Grove Campus to hear music this spring as Waubonsee presents four free concerts.

Waubonsee To Present Free Concerts

Acclaimed steelpan player Liam Teague will join the Waubonsee Steel Band in concert on Saturday, April 23.

This spring Waubonsee Community College will present four free concerts in the Auditorium of the college’s Sugar Grove Campus, Route 47 at Waubonsee Drive. No advance tickets are required.

The Steel Band takes the stage at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 23, with special guest artist Liam Teague. Teague has earned many honors as a performer, including a steelpan championship in his homeland of Trinidad and Tobago. He currently serves as associate professor of steelpan and co-director of the steelband at Northern Illinois University.

The Waubonsee Chorale will take the stage at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 1, while the Jazz Band will perform at 7:30 on Friday, May 6. The group recently took first place in the community college division of the 2011 Reno Jazz Festival and will be joined in concert by guest artist and adjunct faculty member Brian Patti. A clarinet player, Patti plays the tunes of such big band legends as Benny Goodman and Artie Shaw.

Concluding the concert series is the Rock Band, with its 7:30 p.m. performance on Saturday, May 14.
