Chicago Sculptor to Exhibit Work at Waubonsee

“Behemoth, 2010” is one of the works featured in sculptor Mike Rea’s exhibit at Waubonsee Community College’s Sugar Grove Campus.

Waubonsee Community College will host “Party,” an exhibit of large wood and mixed media sculptures, video and sound by Chicago artist Mike Rea, from Feb. 28 through April 2 in the Dickson Center’s Arrowhead Room on the Sugar Grove Campus, Route 47 at Waubonsee Drive. Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Rea will be on hand to talk about his work at a special lecture on Thursday, March 3 from 11 a.m. to noon in the Arrowhead Room.

Interested in the ephemeral worlds established in film and popular culture, Rea is known for his impressive wood sculptures, which range from a space capsule to woodshop tools.

Growing up in the south suburbs of Chicago, Rea attended Northern Illinois University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in art education. He went on to earn two master’s degrees in sculpture from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is represented by Ebersmore in Chicago.
