Waubonsee Vice President Named CFO of the Year

Waubonsee Community College Executive Vice President of Finance and Operations David Quillen, of Geneva, was recently honored as a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the Year by the Daily Herald Business Ledger. Along with the other 14 honorees, Quillen accepted his award at a reception on July 19.

Quillen has made a significant impact since coming to Waubonsee six years ago. During his tenure, Moody’s has upgraded the college’s financial rating twice, so that it now stands at Aa1, just one step below the coveted AAA rating.

Quillen worked to refinance $89 million of the college’s outstanding debt, which resulted in a savings of $5.1 million for local taxpayers. He also oversaw the construction of two new Waubonsee campuses as part of the 2020 College Master Plan.

Quillen is an active member of the Illinois Community College Chief Financial Officers group, the Illinois Community College Risk Management Consortium and the Geneva Economic Development Commission. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Augustana College and a master of business administration degree from the University of Iowa.

The Daily Herald Business Ledger launched the CFO of the Year awards to celebrate those officials who contribute to their organization’s success, as well as the region’s economic growth and stability.
