Chiefs ISCC Co-Champs, Heiss' 10th title
Waubonsee Community College’s Men’s Basketball team clinched a share of the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) title with their 82-64 victory at McHenry County College last week. The Chiefs finished 12-2 in league play to tie Moraine Valley Community College for the top spot. The conference title is the first league championship for Waubonsee since the 2003-2004 season, and the 10th overall under head coach Dave Heiss’ leadership. The ISCC’s all-time leader in wins, Heiss has guided the Chiefs to 237 league victories over the last 26 seasons. Waubonsee’s 12 conference wins also ties the Chiefs’ mark for league triumphs in a season, accomplished four previous times (1978, 1991, 2001 and 2004).
Waubonsee (22-7) will likely be the number two seed behind Moraine Valley (23-7) for the upcoming 2012 Region IV Division II District B Tournament. The Chiefs will host a yet-to-be determined opponent in the first-round of the playoffs on Thursday, March 1, at 7:00 p.m. Semi-final and final round games will be played at Illinois Valley Community College in Oglesby on March 4 and 10, with the start times to be announced. Waubonsee has won the tournament three out of the last four years to advance to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament in Danville, Illinois.
