Exhibit Features Two College Instructors

Waubonsee Community College is currently hosting “Efficacy,” an exhibit of 20 paintings by Chicagoland artists Matt Irie and Mark Arctander, through Feb. 20 in the Dickson Center’s Arrowhead Room on the Sugar Grove Campus, Route 47 at Waubonsee Drive. Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Arctander’s 12 oil paintings are all recreations of hand shadows, while Irie’s abstract works are designed to be “art of infinity and universality.”

In addition to being working artists, Irie and Arctander also teach at McHenry County College in Crystal Lake. Arctander, who is the chair of McHenry’s Communication, Visual and Performing Arts division, earned his master’s degree at Northern Illinois University and received an Illinois Arts Council Fellowship Award in 2001. Irie earned his master’s degree from Northwestern and recently completed a commission for the Chicago Public Libraries.
