Sugar Grove – A Waubonsee Community College administrator received national recognition at the 2024 American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) annual conference in Louisville, KY. Dr. Scott Peska, Assistant Provost of Student Services, was selected as one of three finalists for the AACC's Awards of Excellence, Rising Star – Executive Award.   

Waubonsee Board Seats Student Trustee

Sugar Grove – At its regular meeting in April, the Waubonsee Community College Board of Trustees seated Ashley Hatcher to serve as the student trustee for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Waubonsee Business Club Students Pitch for the First Time at NIU’s Business Olympics Competition, Prepare for SkillsUSA Illinois

Sugar Grove – Four Waubonsee Business Club members recently participated in the Northern Illinois University (NIU) College of Business Olympics Competition held on April 6 in DeKalb.  This marks the first time a registered student organization at Waubonsee has ever participated in a four-year university business competition, providing valuable business skills for the Business Club. The club is now preparing to compete in the statewide SkillsUSA competition which will be held in Peoria on April 26. 

Hope the Comfort Dog Sworn in for Duty at Waubonsee

Sugar Grove – Hope, Waubonsee Community College’s first-ever K9 comfort dog, was officially sworn in at a ceremony on the Sugar Grove campus Wednesday.

AACC Recognizes Waubonsee Faculty with 2024 Dale P. Parnell Faculty Distinction

Sugar Grove – A Waubonsee Community College faculty member has been recognized by the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC). Dr. Sheela Vemu, Associate Professor of Biology, was selected as one of 36 faculty for the 2024 Dale P. Parnell Faculty Distinction Recognition. This award recognizes individuals who go above and beyond what is required to ensure students succeed academically.  

Waubonsee Curates Cultural Programming in April to Honor Asian American and Pacific Islander History

Sugar Grove – Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month is observed from May 1 through May 31. This month is dedicated to honoring and celebrating the many contributions and accomplishments of Asian Americans and Pacific Islander Americans throughout history. Waubonsee Community College will be celebrating this important month before the end of the spring semester. All events are free and open to the public.

Waubonsee Accepting Nominations for 2024 Distinguished Contributor

Sugar Grove – Nominations are currently being accepted for Waubonsee Community College’s 2024 Distinguished Contributor Award. Nominations must be received by Friday, May 3 to be considered for this year.
