Renewal for All at Waubonsee

Fall is my favorite time of the year. As an employee of Waubonsee Community College for the past 33 and a half years, I have witnessed the magnificent transformation that happens to our campuses during the autumn months. The beauty of this season can be found in observing our spectacular trees change colors. The crisp air gives a sense of renewal, hope, and anticipation for what lies ahead.

Waubonsee to Host Veterans Day Ceremony on Nov. 11

The event will feature a special ceremony and keynote presentation by alumnus Timothy Coakley, MD, Commander (U.S. Navy Retired, Medical Corps, Diving Medical Officer), Chief Executive Officer of Tactical Emergency Consultants International, Inc.

Waubonsee President Receives Recognition from the Illinois General Assembly and Area Chambers of Commerce

At the October board meeting, Illinois State Representative Keith R. Wheeler, of the 50th district, recognized Dr. Christine Sobek, President of Waubonsee Community College, with a special House Resolution 921.

College is an important decision that we all consider at one point or another in our lives. Some of us decide to attend right out of high school, and others return when our lives present an opportunity to fit it into everyday life. I took both paths and enrolled in a private undergraduate program right out of high school. Two decades later, I returned to school for my master’s degree. 

Waubonsee Celebrates Native American Heritage Month in November

In honor of Native American Heritage Month (NAHM), Waubonsee Community College will host programs to educate and raise awareness about Native American heritage, culture, traditions, and customs. Members of the community are invited to participate in these free events to learn the significance, impact, and contributions of the First Nations people.

Waubonsee Community College recognized the perseverance of student Destiny Mitchell, of Aurora, at its October board meeting for her determination to meet her career goals despite significant life challenges. 

Waubonsee Takes Another Step Toward a New Career Education Building

The Waubonsee Community College Board of Trustees officially endorsed a final concept and direction for a new Career and Technical Education (CTE) building at their meeting on Oct. 19.  

Waubonsee Foundation Scholarship Application Opens Nov. 1

The Waubonsee Community College Foundation scholarship application, for use during the 2023-2024 academic year, will be available on Nov. 1. By completing one online application, current and prospective Waubonsee students are considered for all Foundation scholarship opportunities for which they meet the criteria. Currently, the Foundation administers over 160 scholarships, many with multiple awards ranging from $250 to $3,500.
