Waubonsee Community College Announces 2024 Commencement Plans

Waubonsee Community College will celebrate the accomplishments of the Class of 2024 with commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 13, at the college’s Sugar Grove Campus Field House. Ceremonies will take place at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and tickets are required.

Two Waubonsee Honors Program Graduates Receive Full-Tuition Scholarships to Area Colleges

Each year, Waubonsee Community College partners with Elmhurst University and North Central College to extend a full-tuition scholarship to an Honors Program Graduate. Through this collaboration, the colleges are extending full-tuition scholarships to Jack McGreevy and Lucie Jumonville.

First-Generation Siblings Triumph, and Graduate, Together

Three siblings who live in Montgomery are set to mark a significant milestone this May as they graduate with their associate degrees from Waubonsee Community College, each paving their path to a brighter future. Soad, Mohamad, and Hadeel Ajaj, all first-generation college students, have overcome obstacles and charted unique journeys toward academic success. 

Waubonsee Foundation to Host Annual Trail Race Fundraiser

The Waubonsee Community College Foundation will host its fourth annual Walk, Run and WIN with Waubonsee 5K/10K on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. on the Sugar Grove Campus.

Each year, the Waubonsee Community College Distinguished Alumnus Award is presented to an outstanding graduate of Waubonsee Community College. Awardees have distinguished themselves in their chosen profession, have documented evidence of contribution and service to their community, and demonstrated a continued interest in lifelong education. One of this year's Distinguished Alumni is Shannon Kennedy, President of BMO US Wealth Management.

Waubonsee Breaks Ground on Technical Education Center, Drives Local Workforce Forward

On April 23, Waubonsee Community College held a groundbreaking ceremony at the Sugar Grove Campus to mark the start of construction on a new Technical Education Center (TEC). The event was attended by students, elected officials, community leaders, employees, and the Waubonsee Board of Trustees.  

Adding the 100,000-square-foot TEC to the Sugar Grove Campus will position Waubonsee to continue to meet the evolving and rigorous training and education challenges of future technicians, the makers, and doers that drive the regional economy and beyond. 

Waubonsee Board Seats Student Trustee

Sugar Grove – At its regular meeting in April, the Waubonsee Community College Board of Trustees seated Ashley Hatcher to serve as the student trustee for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Waubonsee Business Club Students Pitch for the First Time at NIU’s Business Olympics Competition, Prepare for SkillsUSA Illinois

Sugar Grove – Four Waubonsee Business Club members recently participated in the Northern Illinois University (NIU) College of Business Olympics Competition held on April 6 in DeKalb.  This marks the first time a registered student organization at Waubonsee has ever participated in a four-year university business competition, providing valuable business skills for the Business Club. The club is now preparing to compete in the statewide SkillsUSA competition which will be held in Peoria on April 26.
