Waubonsee’s Dickson Center Showcases New Exhibit

The mixed-media piece “Over There” is part of “Casual Disasters,” an exhibit by artist Jennifer Mannebach on display in the Arrowhead Room at Waubonsee Community College’s Sugar Grove Campus through March 24.

“Casual Disasters,” an exhibit by artist Jennifer Mannebach, will run through March 24 in the Arrowhead Room of Dickson Center on Waubonsee Community College's Sugar Grove Campus, Route 47 at Waubonsee Drive. Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Mannebach will discuss her work at a free lecture on Tuesday, March 20, at 12:30 p.m. in room 150 of Bodie Hall at the Sugar Grove Campus.

In her artist’s statement, Mannebach describes her work, writing, “Recently I have been taking photographs of people in slightly awkward looking social situations. I have been combining these references with chaotic imagery that hints at a natural disaster, exploring the shifting ground of casual moments between people.”

Mannebach draws from photographs to create mixed media pieces, often using materials such as masking tape and powdered graphite.

After earning her Master of Fine Arts Degree from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Mannebach taught at the school for six years. She now works as an art facilitator at the Little City Foundation, helping children and adults with autism and other intellectual and developmental disabilities.
