Waubonsee Community College’s Latinos Unidos student group won second place in the altar contest at the City of Aurora’s “Dia de los Muertos,” or “Day of the Dead” celebration. The event, which was organized by Ward 2 Alderman Juany Garza, was held at Family Focus on Oct. 29.

A time to remember and honor those who have died, “Day of the Dead” is a holiday in Mexico and many other countries around the world. Creating altars that incorporate sugar skulls, flowers and food is one of the holiday’s traditions.
