Waubonsee Joins National Project to Improve Student Experience

This year Waubonsee Community College will participate in Foundations of Excellence®, a national higher education project designed to improve the experience of students both in their first year of college and as they prepare to transfer on to a four-year school.

Over the next year, Waubonsee will measure its effectiveness in recruiting, admitting, orienting, supporting, advising and teaching new and transferring students. The college will then develop an action plan and implement any needed improvements.

Funding for Waubonsee’s participation in the project is coming from a larger $3.2-million “Removing Barriers to Student Success” Title V grant from the U.S. Department of Education.

Sponsored by the John N. Gardner Institute for Excellence in Undergraduate Education, the Foundations of Excellence project began in 2003. Since that time, more than 300 two- and four-year colleges and universities across the country have participated.
