Topic: Songwriting, Credits: 3, This course introduces students to the fundamentals of songwriting. Study begins by covering popular song forms followed by in-depth study and work in the art of lyric writing. Study continues with principles of harmony, chord writing, and basic principles of melody. All study includes audio and written examples of commercially successful songs from the tin-pan alley era through today. Basic concepts of copyright law and performing rights societies are also covered.
