Waubonsee Community College’s women’s volleyball team ran into a buzz saw as Sauk Valley Community College downed the Chiefs in three straight sets. Ranked eighth nationally in the latest NJCAA Division II poll, the Skyhawks won 25-14, 25-22 and 25-17. The victory is Sauk Valley’s 17th in their last 18 matches as they improve to 25-4 overall on the season.

Sauk Valley raced out to a 10-3 lead in the first set and never looked back in taking the opener 25-14. Game two Waubonsee held an early 10-6 lead before the Skyhawks reeled off five consecutive points to grab a 15-13 lead. Waubonsee head coach Steve Kish then called a timeout to regroup. The Chiefs responded by taking five of the next six points resulting in a Sauk valley timeout. A tight battle ensued from that point on with neither team holding more than a two-point advantage until the Skyhawks registered the game point on a Chiefs’ miscue to win 25-22. In the third game Sauk Valley again snagged an early lead and built their advantage to 17-10. Waubonsee then ran off four straight points, highlighted by a resounding kill by Emma King after a lengthy rally, to get back in the game. However, Sauk Valley was able to hold off the Chiefs to win 25-19 to take the match.

Kayla Battle recorded six kills, Ashley Deichmueller had a dozen digs, Natalie Jones added three serving aces and 12 assists, while Sidney Fedor tallied three blocks in the loss. The Chiefs (21-12) are not in action again until next Thursday, October 19 when they travel to Oglesby to take on Illinois Valley Community College beginning at 6:00 p.m. For more information on Chiefs’ Athletics you can go on-line to or to
