Chiefs pound Malcolm X for Suhayda's 100th career coaching victory

Conference: No

Opponent: Hawks at Chiefs
6 - 0 (W)

Waubonsee Community College’s men’s soccer team dominated visiting Malcolm X College to register a lopsided 6-0 win. The victory improved the Chiefs’ overall record to 11-4 as Waubonsee head coach Brett Suhayda notched his 100th career coaching win.  The Chiefs controlled the action throughout the match, tallying 26 shots on goal compared to just two for the Hawks.

Luis Correa-Cabral got Waubonsee on the scoreboard with his 13th goal of the season only 10 minutes into the game with an assist from Marcos Carrasco and Reuel Erastus-Obilo. Ten minutes later Carrasco netted his third goal of the season with an assist from Alan Camarena. Ricardo Sanchez put Waubonsee in front 3-0 in the 34th minute with his ninth score of the year off an assist from Ryan Baumann.

The Chiefs added to their comfortable lead 15 minutes into the second half when Carrasco booked his second goal of the day as Erastus-Obilo tallied his second assist. Camarena made it 5-0 Chiefs midway through the second period with his fifth goal of the season as Erastus-Obilo was credited with his third assist of the game. In the 75th minute Correa-Cabral closed out the scoring with his 14th goal of the year as Erastus-Obilo registered his fourth assist on the day and eighth of the year. Devin Hernandez picked up the win in goal for Waubonsee, making two saves to complete the shutout victory.

Suhayda, who took over Waubonsee’s struggling program in 2009, has completely turned things around after a slow start. The Chiefs won just a total of three matches in his first two seasons at the helm. Since then Waubonsee has gone 97-41 overall under his guidance, winning a pair of Region IV titles and three Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) crowns.

Waubonsee is potentially on the verge of the program’s second consecutive ISCC championship and fourth in the last six seasons. The first-place Chiefs are currently 5-1 in league play with one match remaining against McHenry County College. Waubonsee is set to host the Scots on Tuesday, October 10 beginning at 4:00 p.m. in Sugar Grove.
