Chiefs make quick work of Spartans in ISCC play, improve to 9-4 overall

(Sugar Grove, IL.) - Waubonsee Community College’s volleyball team made quick work of visiting Elgin Community College, dispatching the Spartans in three straight games. The Chiefs closed out the match in just 58 minutes as they improved to 9-4 overall and 2-1 in Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference play. Waubonsee was never threatened on the way to winning 25-12, 25-13 and 25-14. 

The Chiefs were led by Mallory Jones who recorded 10 kills and nine digs. Haley Koziol added nine kills, Payton Orzech had 14 assists and nine digs, and Rachel Lape chipped in with 14 assists. Brittany Grider contributed 10 digs and Chelsey Ellen tallied 15 digs. Alexandra Cox, 10th nationally among all NJCAA Division II players in solo blocks, tallied three more to increase her season total to 27 blocks.

Waubonsee is next in action tomorrow when they travel to Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg. The Chiefs return home this coming Friday and Saturday when they host the Chiefs’ Invitational. Waubonsee is set to play Black Hawk College on Friday at 6:00 p.m., and South Suburban College at 8:00 p.m. The Chiefs will take on nationally ranked Sauk Valley Community College on Saturday at noon, and will play Elgin Community College again later that day at 2:00 p.m. The Chiefs are also home next Tuesday, September 20 when they host the College of Lake County. That match is set to begin at 6:00 p.m. CDT and can been seen ‘live’ on-line at
