The most successful communities and organizations do their best to plan for, or even create the future. The Waubonsee Vision 2050 project created a dynamic framework to anticipate, imagine and elevate our collective futures.

Launching the Project
When Waubonsee completed its 2020 College Master Plan in the spring of 2015, the college wondered what its “next big thing” would be. With the face of education changing rapidly in light of technological advances, privatization, and students' shifting wants and needs, the answer became clear — engage in meaningful dialogue about what the future may hold for Waubonsee and its surrounding communities.

Waubonsee Vision 2050 Futures Summit and Roundtables
In June 2015, stakeholders came together on the college’s Sugar Grove Campus for the Waubonsee Vision 2050 Futures Summit, which featured presentations and discussions. Several themes emerged. The following fall, the Waubonsee Board of Trustees, faculty, staff and Futures Summit attendees were invited to participate in Outreach and Engagement Roundtables to help refine what these themes might mean, both for Waubonsee and for the future of our local communities. In total, 1,814 participants were involved in the process.

The resulting Transformational Statement is designed to guide the work of the Board of Trustees, faculty and staff. For more information on this project, please contact Dr. Lulu Blacksmith at (630) 466-5478.
