In response to the growth in demand for professionally-trained truck drivers, Waubonsee Community College will offer a truck driving program.
The four-week, 160-hour truck driver training program at Waubonsee combines classroom presentation and hands-on experience that leads to a Class A commercial driver's license with all endorsements. New classes begin every three weeks.
Participants will gain the skills to become a safe, professional Truck Driver, enabling them to secure employment as an entry-level position trucking industry. Along with behind-the-wheel training, skills taught will include logbook keeping, map reading, and backing, shifting and maneuvering.
Students who successfully complete this program will also have job placement assistance for work in the trucking industry.
Classes are taught by professionals who have years of teaching experience, as well as over-the-road driving experience.
The maximum students accepted per class is six and the tuition is $3,385.00.
Classes are held on Route 34, on the east side of Plano, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each weekday for four weeks.
Prior to registering, an interview and physical are required. Students must be 18 years of age or older, hold a valid state of Truck Driver Training Illinois driver's license, and meet Department of Transportation medical requirements. In addition to presenting a valid driver's license at the initial interview, the candidate must provide a motor vehicle record. Students are responsible for providing this information.
