If you are a current or prospective Waubonsee student needing
transfer information for a specific course of study, please
call Waubonsee's Transfer Information at
(630) 466-7900, ext. 2251 or the Counseling
and Advising Center at ext. 2361. You should also visit
iTransfer ("the web site
that helps you transfer college credit in the state of Illinois").
What is the Illinois Articulation Initiative (IAI)?
The IAI is a major, statewide, cooperative agreement among
participating Illinois colleges and universities to facilitate
successful transfer of course credits from one participating
institution to another, effective beginning summer 1998.
What does the IAI do for me?
It can help assure a smooth transfer from Waubonsee to your
chosen four-year school. A General Education Core Curriculum
has been defined by IAI. If you follow the prescribed curriculum,
you can be assured that the credits satisfy general education
requirements at a majority of Illinois colleges and universities.
What is a General Education Core Curriculum?
General education consists of courses the colleges and universities
consider essential for a student's success in college and
life and are equivalent to the first two years of a four-year
baccalaureate program. The IAI list includes courses in math,
oral and written communication, social and behavioral science,
physical and life science, humanities and fine arts.
How do I find out what's on the IAI list?
The iTransfer Web site contains
the most up-to-date list of IAI approved courses.
Does IAI General Education Core Curriculum apply to me
at Waubonsee?
The transferable General Education Core Curriculum becomes
effective for students entering an associate or baccalaureate
degree-granting IAI participating institution as a first-time
freshman in the summer of 1998 and thereafter.
There are three ways a student pursuing a bachelor's degree
can satisfy lower-division IAI general education requirements:
1) Complete the transferable General Education Core Curriculum
as part of completing an AA or AS degree at Waubonsee; or
2) Complete the total transferable General Education Core
Curriculum prior to admission to a bachelor's degree program;
or 3) Complete the baccalaureate institution's general education
requirements.
Will credit earned before summer 1998 apply toward completing
a transfer degree?
Many institutions adopting changes in degree/curriculum requirements,
including Waubonsee, allow students to choose whether to follow
the old or the new requirements for credit earned before summer
1998.
Because each community college or university decides how
to apply credit earned prior to summer 1998, students should
contact the Counseling and Advising Center or the Transfer
Center at Waubonsee to discuss their particular circumstance.
What about transferring courses not on the IAI list?
Only courses on the IAI list are guaranteed to transfer among
participating institutions. Other courses may transfer on
a college-by-college basis. Work with Counseling and Advising
or the Transfer Information at Waubonsee to check on each course
to determine transferability.
What about courses for specific majors?
Panels of community college and university faculty members
are in the process of working out agreements between schools
regarding requirements in the major fields of study. Some
major core requirements have been defined and Waubonsee is
moving toward conforming to the IAI curriculum. Watch the
iTransfer Web site for progress in this area.
