ACA is dedicated to increasing the awareness of the African American culture and its contributions to U.S. history.

  ALPHA SIGMA LAMDA CHAPTER

This national honor society is for students who are older than 25 and who are looking for a group of similar students to discuss a wide range of issues and provide support. One-time membership fee of $50 is required.

This group provides members with a chance to receive critical analysis of their work by peers.

  ATHLETICS-INTERCOLLEGIATE

The Waubonsee Chiefs participate in the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference. Waubonsee is also a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).
Men compete in cross country, golf, basketball, tennis, baseball and soccer.

Women compete in cross country, volleyball, tennis, basketball, soccer, and softball.

The ceramics group provides activities and trips to expand student knowledge in the field.

This spiritual group provides students with a way of knowing God through Biblical training, fellowship and activities.

  CRIMINAL JUSTICE CLUB

This club promotes education and creates an atmosphere to discuss issues in the field of Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement.

  COLLEGE BOWL

This "varsity sport of the mind" is a team question-and-answer game of general knowledge and quick recall. Try-outs are held in both the fall and spring, and the team participates in several tournaments each year.

  DRAMA/THEATRE

Waubonsee supports an active drama department that (among other activities) presents a major production each fall and spring. Involvement in performing arts can be through class enrollment (Theatre), auditions or joining Stage Performers, Etc.

  ETHICS BOWL

Teams of four students compete to provide the best responses to ethical cases. Responses are judged by members of the community. The Ethics Bowl takes place every April.

  ILLINOIS SKYWAY COLLEGIATE CONFERENCE

Waubonsee belongs to the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference whose members include College of Lake County, Elgin Community College, McHenry Community College, Moraine Valley Community College, Morton College and Oakton Community College. In addition to intercollegiate athletics, the Skyway Conference also sponsors competition in art, music, writing and academics.


 
     
  "INSIGHT" NEWSPAPER

This student-run newspaper is usually published every other week and offers interested students journalism experience.

Intramurals provide recreational activities for those not wishing to compete in an intercollegiate sport.

This organization provides cultural opportunities for students and fosters awareness of the richness of Latino culture.

  MODEL ILLINOIS GOVERNMENT (MIG)

MIG trains students for an annual statewide simulation of the Illinois General Assembly, learning about legislative and lobbying tactics and parliamentary procedure.

  MUSIC-INSTRUMENTAL

The Waubonsee Steel Drum band, Rock Music ensemble, Recorder Ensemble and Jazz band give students opportunities to perform for concerts and community events. Students also can gain concert band experience through cooperative agreements with the American Legion Band and the Fox Valley Concert Band. Involvement with these instrumental music groups is through class enrollment.

  MUSIC-VOCAL

Waubonsee offers three opportunities to participate in vocal groups: The Waubonsee Chorale, a 20-member group, which performs traditional choral music; The Waubonsee Singers, a pop singing group which performs "today's Sounds;" and the Fox Valley Festival Chorus, a 60 member ensemble which performs larger choral works, often with an instrumental group. Involvement with these vocal music groups is through class enrollment. Refer to Music course descriptions in the college catalog and the schedule and talk to the instructor.

The goal of Spectrum is to encourage acceptance and tolerance within the diverse population of our school, create a safe environment for all students and break down gender stereotypes of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered youth as well as students who are questioning their sexuality and allies.

Student Ambassadors assist the Recruitment department in the recruitment of new students. Ambassadors provide campus tours, visit high schools and community locations with the staff as well as contact prospective students by phone to encourage them to enroll.

  STUDENT GOVERNMENT

Student government provides the opportunity for a student-planned and operated system of creative projects. It provides one channel of communication through which the administration of the college and students may plan and discuss academic topics. All student government activities and elections are governed by a constitution voted on and approved by vote of the student body.

Student Senate:
The Waubonsee Student Senate is composed of 12 students. The senate president and five senators are elected in the spring while the remaining six senators are elected in the fall. The senate has open meetings and all students are invited to attend. Students are encouraged to share their ideas, problems and suggestions by using senate mailboxes in the Student Activities office, DKN 121.

Student Trustee:
A student member of the Waubonsee Board of Trustees is elected during the spring election. This student attends all board of trustees meetings, representing the interests of Waubonsee students. The student trustee has a mailbox in DKN 121 and can be contacted through the Student Activities office.

This group provides members with opportunities to gain better understanding of the business world and provide service to the community.
