Choosing a College Doesn't Have to Be Hard
Waubonsee can get you the answers you need.

Do you have a son or daughter who's considering college? Then you need to know the right questions to ask to make sure your child chooses the right school. Below are the 10 most important questions to ask a college admissions representative. These questions are especially helpful to have and use at Waubonsee's annual College Night. 1.What is your average student-to-teacher ratio?: Our average student-to-teacher ratio of 15:1 means small classes where our dedicated faculty are able to provide a learning environment that is truly personalized for your son or daughter.
2.Will courses taken at this school transfer to other colleges?: Waubonsee is part of the Illinois Articulation Initiative (IAI), so our courses will transfer to any other in-network college or university where your child is accepted. Students can also transfer their credits to other public and private colleges and universities across the nation with the help of our counselors. That way, our graduates have the flexibility to continue their education after leaving Waubonsee. To learn more about our easy transferability options, click here.
3.What is the cost to attend (tuition, fees, books, room and board)?: Tuition at Waubonsee is charged per credit hour (most classes are 3 credit hours) and varies depending upon whether or not you live in Waubonsee’s district. Full or partial payment is due upon registration, but we offer several different payment plans and work with each student to make sure financial aid is applied for on time.
4.What kind of financial aid or scholarships are available?: Our staff will help you and your son or daughter search and apply for our four types of financial aid, including grants, an array of scholarships, student loans and on-campus employment.
5.What kind of tutoring opportunities exist on campus?: At Waubonsee, we know that there might be times when your son or daughter needs extra help. That’s why we offer free walk-in tutoring at the Learning Enhancement Center, online tutoring in many subjects and one-on-one tutoring for those that qualify.
6.Are classes conveniently scheduled at night or on the weekends?: Most of our students work at least part-time or have other commitments outside of the classroom. That’s why we offer a variety of class schedules throughout the week, in the evenings, on the weekends and online. Take a look.
7.Do you offer job or career placement?: Our Career Services Center is free of charge and open to students, alumni and members of the community. We can help your son or daughter write a résumé, sharpen interview skills and find current job openings and internship opportunities.
8.What kind of leadership opportunities are available?: Because Waubonsee is a two-year school, our students are able to assume leadership roles in clubs and organizations right away. We offer everything from honor societies and student government to theatre and music. Student athletes can choose from 13 different sports for men and women. We’re close to home so it’s easy for friends and family to attend games and cheer on our top rated teams.
9.What is the average length of time it takes a student to graduate?: Waubonsee offers education plans that range from two-year degree programs to one-semester certificate programs. Some of our degrees and certificates are meant to prepare students for the workforce, while others are designed to allow students to transfer to four-year colleges and universities.
10.When is the deadline for applying?: Before enrolling at Waubonsee, all students need to fill out a New Student Information Form. A complete checklist to getting started is available to make the process even easier. The last day to enroll in a course is usually the day of or the day prior to the first class.
