| Employment Program Honored by Chamber |
| (09-22-2008) |
Aurora – At its annual meeting on Sept. 18, the Greater Aurora Chamber of Commerce named Waubonsee Community College the 2008 Business of the Year in the community service category for its collaborative Employment Skills Training Program at Hesed House in Aurora.
Over the past year, 43 individuals have completed the program, with 29 of the participants currently employed.
Individuals who are referred to the program by Hesed House case managers spend the first four weeks in intensive half-day, on-site training, learning teamwork and communication, building self-esteem and confidence, and attaining vital résumé writing, interviewing and job search skills.
After successfully completing the training, students develop comprehensive individual employment plans. A Waubonsee coordinator works with area employers to provide job opportunities and placement and then follows up regularly to ensure on-the-job success.
Waubonsee Community College was awarded partial funding for this project through the City of Aurora Community Development Block Grant. |
