Waubonsee Community College’s women’s volleyball team began the post-season with a solid win over visiting Morton College. The Chiefs, seeded fourth in the Region IV Division II Tournament, downed the Panthers three games to one. Waubonsee (24-16) now moves on to the semi-finals against Kankakee Community College (18-22) this Saturday, November 4, beginning at noon. The match, along with the finals, will all be played at the College of Lake County in Grayslake.

The Chiefs took the opening game with the Panthers 25-19. Waubonsee then raced out to a 13-3 lead in the second set, eventually securing a comfortable 25-12 victory. The Chiefs then went flat in the third game, committing several unforced errors on the way to dropping the set 25-17. Whatever head coach Steve Kish said during the break between games worked very well. Waubonsee reeled off the first six points of the set en route to a dominating 25-11 victory to take the match.

Chelsey Ellen led the way with 19 kills and six digs. Sidney Fedor added 12 kills and three solo blocks, while Kayla Battle contributed 11 kills. Natalie Jones recorded 39 assists and delivered six serving aces to up her season total to a team-leading 54. Hollie Fedderly chipped in with 24 assists, Ashley Deichmueller had nine digs and Kristin Fick registered seven digs in the victory.
