(Sugar Grove, IL.) – After playing six matches over the Labor Day weekend in the rugged Owens (OH) Community College Tournament, a sluggish Waubonsee Community College volleyball team fell behind early before rallying for a hard fought five-set victory over Aurora University’s Junior Varsity. The Spartans took game one 25-20 and then took a commanding two games to none lead by rallying to pull out game two 26-24. The Chiefs stayed alive with a 25-14 win before holding on for a 25-21 victory in game four to force a decisive fifth game. Waubonsee (8-2) then secured the match with a 15-10 triumph.

Freshman Kayla Battle sparked Waubonsee’s win with eight kills and seven blocks. Anna Senese added seven kills, 16 digs and three serving aces. Hollie Fedderly chipped in with 16 assists and 17 digs, while Natalie Jones contributed 18 assists and Ashley Deichmueller registered 15 digs. Emma King tallied six kills and six blocks, Sidney Fedor booked seven kills and Alora Gomez recorded six kills for the Chiefs.

Waubonsee is next in action this coming Thursday, Sept. 7 when they travel to Oakton Community College to begin Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) play. The Chiefs return home next Tuesday, Sept. 12 when they nationally-ranked McHenry County College. The Scots, the defending ISCC champs, are ranked 12th in the NJCAA’s Division II Pre-season poll. The match is set to begin at 6:00 p.m. CDT and can been seen ‘live’ on-line at www.Waubonsee.edu/athletics.
