Opponent: Eagles at Chiefs
25 - 15 (W)
26 - 24 (W)
25 - 20 (W)

Waubonsee Community College’s volleyball team returned home for the first time in a month and got back into the win column as well. However, it was not easy against an underdog Illinois Valley Community College squad. The Chiefs (21-16) held off the Eagles (2-22) to win the match in three straight games. Waubonsee, which had not played on its home court since Sept. 20, went just 7-10 in 17 straight road matches after a solid 14-6 start to the season.

In the first game Illinois Valley led 12-11 before Waubonsee pulled away to win 25-15. Game two was nip and tuck before Chiefs’ head coach Steve Kish called a timeout with his team trailing 23-22. Waubonsee asserted its will after the break in the action and prevailed 26-24 to take a commanding two games to none lead. The third game mirrored the second as a see-saw affair ensued with neither team having more than a three point advantage until late in the game. Waubonsee led just 19-18 before reeling off five straight points en route to a 25-20 win.

As they’ve done several times this season, Haley Koziol and Alexandra Cox provided Waubonsee with a one-two punch. Koziol, named to the All-Region IV Second Team earlier in the day, paced Waubonsee with a dozen kills. Cox, an All-Region IV First Team selection, recorded 11 kills and seven solo blocks. The St. Charles North alumnus leads all NJCAA Division II players with 117 solo blocks on the season. Rachel Lape and Hollie Fedderly each registered 13 assists, while Mallory Jones added 15 digs and Chelsey Ellen contributed 10 digs in the victory.

Waubonsee is next in action tomorrow, Friday, October 21 when they host Morton College in a make-up match to close out the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference schedule for both teams. The Chiefs are also at home next Tuesday, October 25 when they host Triton College in the regular season finale for Sophomore Recognition night. The match is set to begin at 6:00 p.m. CDT and can been seen ‘live’ on-line at
