Waubonsee falls to nationally-ranked Sauk Valley, sweeps past Elgin on day two of Chiefs' Invitational Tournament

Nationally-ranked Sauk Valley Community College took three straight games from Waubonsee to easily win their match on day two of the Chiefs' Invitational Tournament. The 18th-ranked Skyhawks won 25-17, 25-13 and 25-12. Waubonsee, ranked 15th nationally in the last NJCAA Division II poll, could never get on track as the Skyhawks (9-2) put them on the defensive for most of the match. The Chiefs were led by Haley Koziol who booked fve kills, six digs and a couple of blocks. Rachel Lape was credited with eight assists and six digs, while Mallory Jones had seven digs, Chelsey Ellen contributed six digs and Hollie Fedderly registered seven assists.
In Waubonsee's final match of the two-day event, the Chiefs (12-6) knocked off Elgin for the second time in four days. Waubonsee prevailed over the Spartans 25-14, 25-9 and 25-22, getting contributions from several players. Jones paced the Chiefs' attack with 10 kills and 11 digs. Koziol had seven kills and four serving aces, while Alexandra Cox booked six blocks. Ellen chipped in with eight kills, Vanessa Melendez tallied 15 digs, and Payton Orzech added eight assists. Bailey Martenson recorded 10 digs, Fedderly had 10 assists and Lape contributed nine assists.
