(Sugar Grove, IL.) – After playing six matches over the past weekend in the rugged Owens (OH) Community College Tournament, a tired Waubonsee Community College volleyball team found a way pull out a hard fought, four-set victory over Aurora University’s Junior Varsity. The Chiefs prevailed in game one 25-17 before Aurora bounced back to win game two 28-26. Waubonsee regained the upper hand by winning the third game 25-20. The Chiefs then edged the Spartans 26-24 in a thrilling fourth game to clinch the match.
Alexandra Cox led the way for Waubonsee with a dozen kills and six blocks. Rachel Lape added 16 assists and four serving aces, while Chelsey Ellen booked 11 kills. Mallory Jones chipped in with 16 digs and three aces, Hollie Fedderly tallied 23 assists and Haley Koziol recorded 11 digs.
Waubonsee is next in action this coming Thursday, Sept. 8 when they travel to McHenry County College for a pivotal Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) match. The Scots are the defending ISCC champs and were ranked 16th in the NJCAA’s Division II Pre-season poll. The Chiefs return home next Tuesday, September 13 when they host Elgin Community College in ISCC action. The match is set to begin at 6:00 p.m. CDT and can been seen ‘live’ on-line at www.waubonsee.edu/athletics.
