Waubonsee pulls away in fourth quarter, secures win in first ever meeting between the two schools in basketball

(Sugar Grove, IL.) – It took Waubonsee Community College a little time to get on track. After trailing 37-35 at halftime the Chiefs raced past visiting Ancilla (IN) College in the second half for a 78-61 victory. Waubonsee outscored the Chargers 21-12 in the third quarter and then went one step further in the fourth, outscoring Ancilla 22-12. For the game the Chiefs forced the Chargers into 34 turnovers. Ancilla (1-1) also struggled at the free throw line, making just 11 of 24 attempts (46 percent). Waubonsee on the other hand made 28 of 36 foul shots (78 percent). 

The Chiefs’ Alexis VanHyhe was the high scorer in the game, finishing with 20 points, four assists and five rebounds. Sophomore Libby Love contributed 15 points, including a pair of three-pointers. Taseandra Parker chipped in with 11 points and four assists, Mozelle Kempiak booked 10 points and nine boards, and Lauren Goff recorded four steals. Waubonsee’s next game is Tuesday, November 8 when they travel to Triton College in River Grove. The Chiefs don’t return home until Tuesday, November 22 when they host Highland Community College Tipoff is slated for 5:00 p.m. in Erickson Hall.
