South Suburban pulls away in fourth quarter to down Waubonsee in the Chiefs' season opener

(Sugar Grove, IL.) – Visiting South Suburban College pulled away in the second half to down Waubonsee Community College 72-61 in the season opener for both teams. The Bulldogs grabbed a 34-32 lead at halftime by winning the rebound battle in the first half. South Suburban snagged a dozen offensive rebounds and owned a 32-21 advantage overall through the first two quarters. Waubonsee trailed by eight heading into the fourth quarter before South Suburban’s Angel Kidd helped spark the visitors to a 68-54 lead midway through the final period, a deficit that the Chiefs were unable to recover from.

Waubonsee was led by sophomore Libby Love who booked 22 points, including five three-point baskets. Alexis VanWyhe tallied 16 points, Taseandra Parker hauled down 11 rebounds, and Lauren Goff handed out six assists and grabbed eight boards. The Bulldogs’ Kidd led all scorers with 23 points to go along with her 14 rebounds and five assists. Waubonsee’s next game is this Saturday, November 5 when the Chiefs host Ancilla Community College from Indiana. Tipoff is slated for 1:00 p.m. in Erickson Hall.
