Rock Valley College
Waubonsee struggles offensively as 4th-ranked Rock Valley pulls away in the second half
Opponent: Golden Eagles at Lady Chiefs
49 - 63 (L)
After a period of unseasonably warm weather, the temperature outside dropped earlier in the day and the Lady Chiefs' shooting went cold too. Waubonsee shot just 26 percent (14 for 53) from the floor on the way to a 63-49 loss to visiting Rock Valley College. The Golden Eagles, ranked fourth nationally in the latest NJCAA Division III poll, led just 20-15 at the end of the first quarter. Both teams struggled in the second quarter, each scoring just 10 points for a 30-25 score at the break. Rock Valley (10-4) then gradually pulled away in the second half, out scoring the Lady Chiefs (8-5) by four points in the third period and five in the final stanza.
Rockford native Coriesha Bailey was one of the few bright spots for Waubonsee, pouring in 24 points and handing out three assists. Jenae Rowe turned in another outstanding performance as she continued to ramp up her play in the absence of injured forward Julianna Wadsworth. Rowe posted a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds, to go along with making a pair of steals as well.
