Waubonsee improved to 4-1 overall on the season with a 75-59 victory over visiting Illinois Valley Community College. Tied 16-all after the first quarter, Waubonsee out scored the Eagles 20-12 in the second period to grab a 36-28 halftime lead. The Lady Chiefs garnered 20 points off Illinois Valley (3-2) turnovers in the first half alone. Waubonsee extended their advantage to 13 points (60-47) at the end of the third quarter by shooting 50 percent (8 of 16) from the field. The Lady Chiefs built their biggest lead with 2:09 remaining when they went ahead by 21 points, 75-54.
Julianna Wadsworth and Elizabeth Skaggs each booked 21 points to lead Waubonsee in scoring. Wadsworth also snagged nine rebounds, while Skaggs was a perfect seven for seven from the field and made seven of eight free throw attempts. Point guard Coreisha Bailey again was the catalyst for the Lady Chiefs’ offense. The sophomore from Rockford East chipped in with 19 points to go along with eight assists and six steals. Tynia Flores contributed eight boards and Libby Love made three steals in the victory.
