Big third quarter by Parkland leads to Waubonsee's first loss

Waubonsee and nationally-ranked Parkland College were deadlocked at 32-all coming out of the locker room at halftime. Then the third quarter happened. The visiting Cobras (2-2) reeled off a 10-0 run to start the period and out scored Waubonsee by 14 points (28-14) in the third stanza en route to an eventual 15-point victory 75-60. Parkland, ranked fifth nationally in the NJCAA's Division II Pre-season poll, shot 54 percent (7 of 13) from the field in the third period, including three baskets from long range. Meanwhile the Lady Chiefs (1-1) shot just 26 percent (5 for 19) during the same stretch and misfired on all three of their attempts from beyond the arc. For the game Parkland's bench out scored Waubonsee's 26-0 and out rebounded the Lady Chiefs 48-40 overall. Waubonsee also shot just seven percent (1 for 14) from three-point range for the contest.
Coriesha Bailey led Waubonsee in scoring with 20 points to go along with two assists and two steals. Both Julianna Wadsworth and Elizabeth Skaggs posted double-doubles. Wadsworth, a sophomore from Oswego East, tallied 17 points, snagged 10 rebounds, handed out four assists and made three steals. Skaggs, a sophomore from Aurora West, booked 14 points and grabbed 11 boards.
