Waubonsee made just enough free throws down the stretch to hold off the visiting Eagles and hang on for a 94-92 win. The Chiefs (7-14) raced out to a 48-37 halftime lead on the Benedictine University Junior Varsity. The Eagles then steadily chipped away at the deficit throughout the second half, often trading three-point baskets at their end of the floor while the Chiefs scored two-point baskets inside at their end. Benedictine finished the game with 14 three-point baskets, including shooting 67 percent (8 of 12) from long range in the second half. In the end the Eagles ran out of time as Waubonsee held them at bay by shooting 57 percent (34 of 60) from the floor for the game.
Sammie Hines paced Waubonsee with 22 points and handed out three assists. For the second straight game John Stark booked 18 points, and Zech Mauldin contributed 12 points with four treys. Naiem Johnson added 10 points, handed out four assists and made four steals. Chris Bryson chipped in with nine points and dished out nine assists, while Chris Buckley led the Chiefs in rebounding with six boards.
