Opponent: Chiefs at Spartans
66 - 90 (L)
Waubonsee fell behind early and never could recover as Elgin ran away with a 90-66 victory. The Spartans (16-7, 6-1) nailed 16 three-pointers, eight in each half, to remain on top of the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference standings midway through the league’s schedule. Elgin finished a blistering 73 percent (16 of 22) from beyond the arc and shot 62 percent (36 of 58) overall from the floor for the contest. In stark contrast the Chiefs (6-14, 2-5) shot only 37 percent (23 of 62) from the field and made only one trey the entire game.
John Stark, the Chiefs’ 6’11” reserve center, led Waubonsee with his first collegiate career double-double. The freshman from Oswego booked 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as he has emerged as a force to be reckoned with the last three games. Naiem Johnson was the only other Waubonsee player in double digits as he tallied 11 points and grabbed seven boards. Chris Bryson added nine points and six assists, while Omar Hernandez also chipped in with nine points in the loss.
