Lancers hold off Chiefs in ISCC action
Opponent: Lancers at Chiefs
74 - 84 (L)
The College of Lake County held off Waubonsee Community College down the stretch to take an 84-74 victory in Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference play. The Lancers (10-8, 2-1) built a double-digit lead in the first half courtesy of 11 Chiefs’ turnovers. Lake County eventually went to the locker room at the intermission with a 43-30 lead. The Lancers grabbed their biggest lead at 66-48 with 8:42 remaining before the Chiefs (5-11, 1-2) began to chip away at that deficit. With three minutes left Waubonsee had pulled to within nine (76-67) and seemingly had all the momentum with an apparent key defensive stop. However, the Lancers’ Jovan Jokic connected on a long, desperation two-point basket just as the shot clock expired to knock the wind out of the Chiefs’ sails. Lake County then made six straight foul shots down the stretch to secure the victory.
Waubonsee was led in scoring by Omar Hernandez who finished with 16 points while grabbing eight rebounds. Ryan Sharp nailed four treys on his way to booking 14 points to go along with handing out five assists. Chris Buckley chipped in with 12 points and three assists, Joe Secor hauled down eight boards, and Zech Mauldin added eight points off the bench playing in his first game of the season. Lake County was paced by D.J. Ostrander’s game-high 29 points, while Jordan Taylor posted a double-double with 22 points and 10 assists.
