Opponent: Golden Eagles at Chiefs
60 - 72 (L)
Waubonsee dropped its seventh consecutive contest, falling to NJCAA Division III powerhouse Rock Valley College 72-60. The Golden Eagles, ranked number one in the nation among Division III hoops squads, remain unbeaten at 15-0. The Chiefs (3-8) head into the holiday break on one of the worst slides ever during Head Coach Dave Heiss' 31 seasons at the helm. Waubonsee's current seven game losing streak is second only to a nine-game slide that occurred last season, the toughest stretch in the last 20 years. Rock Valley took a 34-23 halftime lead by forcing a dozen Waubonsee turnovers and making good on several second chance baskets in the first period. The Chiefs battled in the second half, but never got closer than seven points the rest of the way. Waubonsee made just 20 percent (2 of 10) from three-point range for the game, while Rock Valley nailed seven baskets from beyond the arc. The Golden Eagles also enjoyed a big advantage at the foul line, making 23 of 25 (92 percent) compared to just 8 of 12 (67 percent) for the Chiefs.
Naiem Johnson paced Waubonsee with 16 points and seven rebounds. Elliot McGaughy added 11 points and handed out four assists, while Chris Bryson contributed 11 points, dished out three assists, snagged five boards and recorded three steals. Waubonsee now has the next 18 days off before taking the court on Tuesday, January 5, when they travel to nearby Aurora University to take on the Spartans' Junior Varsity at 7:00 p.m. Aurora downed the Chiefs in a nail-biter 84-82 back on November 23 in Sugar Grove.
