Chiefs drop fifth straight with final second loss at Kishwaukee
Opponent: Chiefs at Kougars
81 - 83 (L)
Waubonsee's losing streak has now reached five games after an 83-81 loss in the final seconds at Kishwaukee College. The Chiefs' Chris Bryson nailed a three-pointer with :04.8 left to knot the score at 81. However, a crucial Waubonsee foul on the ensuing inbounds play resulted in two free throws for the Kougars, which Armon Williams calmly made to win the contest. A desperation three-pointer by the Chiefs was well off the mark at the buzzer. Kishwaukee led 33-30 at halftime and grabbed their biggest lead at 48-38 early in the second half. The Chiefs clawed their way back into the game, out rebounding the Kougars 52-43 overall, including 19 offensive boards. Unfortunately the Chiefs made just 3 of 11 (27 percent) three-point attempts and only 14 of 24 (58 percent) foul shots.
After a cold shooting first half Elliot McGaughy made four of his final five shot attempts on the way to tallying 17 points. The Oswego High School product also snagged eight rebounds, handed out three assists and made two steals. The Chiefs had three other players all score 13 points each. That trio consisted of Bryson, Omar Hernandez and Darren Hall, who also grabbed seven rebounds in the game. Chris Buckley added a dozen points and three assists to give Waubonsee five players in double figures. The Chiefs nearly had a sixth as Sammie Hines finished with nine points to go along with hauling in eight rebounds and dishing out four assists. Kishwaukee was led by Austin Patterson's season high 29 points, including going 4 of 6 from long range. Last week's Region IV Player of the Week Malcolm Reed posted a double-double for the Kougars with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
