Harper surprises Chiefs, snaps Waubonsee's three-game winning streak

Waubonsee came out flat and never recovered against an energized Harper College squad and fell 79-58 in Palatine, breaking the Chiefs’ modest three-game winning streak. Playing for the first time without starting guard Alec Goetz, out with a hip injury, the Chiefs (3-2) struggled offensively. For the game Waubonsee shot only 13 percent (2 of 15) from three-point range, only 38 percent (8 of 21) from the foul line, and just 24 percent (10 of 42) from the floor in the second half.
Chris Buckley was the lone Chiefs’ player to reach double figures, recording a game-high 24 points to go along with nine rebounds, two assists and two steals. Naiem Johnson contributed nine points and five boards, while Elliot McGaughy added eight points and hauled down seven rebounds. Marcus Gaitlin sparked Harper (3-4) throughout the game, nearly posting a triple double by scoring 19 points, grabbing 11 rebounds and handing out eight assists.
