Lady Chiefs hold off Bulldogs, move on to Region IV Semi-Finals

Waubonsee held off South Suburban to move into the semi-finals of the Region IV Division II Tournament. The Lady Chiefs took the opening game by a 25-16 score before the Bulldogs responded to narrowly win game two 26-24. Waubonsee then kept South Suburban, ranked as high as 14th nationally earlier in the season, at arm's length to win games three and four. The Lady Chiefs prevailed 25-20 and 25-22 to secure their 33rd win of the season and move into the final four. The top two teams will advance to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament in Phoenix, Ariz. beginning on Nov. 20. The Lady Chiefs will be seeking the program's first ever berth in the National Tournament.
Head coach Steve Kish got a well balanced effort from his squad in the victory over the Bulldogs. Laura Lyons led the way with 13 kills, 11 digs and four blocks, while Ellie Martin pitched in with 41 assists, 16 digs and four serving aces. Kaitlyn Richter booked 11 kills and 19 digs, Erin Bowe added 10 kills and 26 digs, and Allison Humes contributed 11 kills and three blocks. Amber Konen also tallied 13 digs, Shayna Tucek chipped in with a dozen digs and Faith Montalbano recorded six kills.
