Lady Chiefs rally in second half to tie Chaparrals
Opponent: Chaparrals at Lady Chiefs
3 - 3 (Tie)
A tired Waubonsee squad rallied in the second half to salvage a 3-3 tie with the College of DuPage in the Lady Chiefs' regular season finale. After a thrilling and emotional road victory for the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference title the night before in Libertyville, the Lady Chiefs understandably came out flat against the Chaparrals. Playing barely 12 hours after they returned triumphantly to the Sugar Grove campus, the Lady Chiefs fell behind 2-0 in the first 11 minutes of play versus DuPage. The Chaparrals held that 2-0 lead at the break before Waubonsee got on the board in the second half. Olivia Cozzoni booked her 10th goal of the season just seven minutes into the second period with an assist from Jazmine Velazquez. Andrea Garcia then knotted the score at 2-all midway through the half with her 18th goal of the year off an assist from Kelli Cardine. Only four minutes after that Cardine gave Waubonsee the lead when she booted her sixth goal of the season. However, just when it appeared the Lady Chiefs were about to secure the come-from-behind victory, the Chaparrals' Angela Toritto tied the game with only 25 seconds remaining in regulation. As a non-conference match, no overtime periods were played. For the match Waubonsee (12-3-2) out shot DuPage 18-15 as Christina Sommerfeld made seven saves in goal the first half, and Lisa Gaffino recorded five saves in the second period.
