ISCC Match - Prairie State College
While others falter, Chiefs hold steady to finish second on the day
Opponent: Hosted by Prairie State College
At the first Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference match of the season, the Chiefs staggered to a fifth place finish. This time the Chiefs held things together while most of the other teams faltered on the Glenwoodie Golf Course. Waubonsee posted a team total of 324 to finish second, 10 strokes behind Moraine Valley Community College's tally of 314. That score was nine shots off what the Cyclones shot at the first ISCC match, a trend that was seen across the board. Oakton took third with a 330 total, 15 strokes off their season opening score. Prairie State was fourth with a 339 team total, 22 shots back from their previous score. And Elgin carded a 348, 35 strokes over what they did the first time out.
Waubonsee was led by freshman Matt Yonkovich who fired a 5-over par 77 to finish third individually. Jon Hvasta booked a 79, while Zack Ziman posted an 83 and Jackson Baily tallied an 85 to round out the Chiefs' scoring. Waubonsee's Blake Kauffman finished with an 87 and Tom Burton participated as an unattached individual. Prairie State's Bobby Sloan took medalist honors with a 2-over par 74, one shot ahead of Moraine Valley's David Karowski.
