Hawks' / Chiefs' Invitational
Chiefs place a distant a third in season opening meet
Waubonsee runners placed third as a team at the first meet of the 2014 season. The Chiefs tallied a team total of 81 points at the Hawks'/Chiefs' Invitational, hosted this year by Harper College in Palatine. Freshman John Weissensel paced Coach Keith Burke's runners with an 11th place finish, covering the 6K course in a time of 21:39. Teammate Javier Montelongo was not far behind him in 13th place. Brandon Huber finished 17th, David Alvarado was 19th and Nick Harrison came in 21st to round out Waubonsee's scoring. Deonta Motley placed was 36th, Bradley Kigyos crossed the finish line 41st and Nate Pealstrom was 46th as eight Chiefs competed in the meet. Runners from nine junior colleges participated. Harper College took the team title with just 21 points as the Hawks' John Majerus, Juan Barajas and Brennan Albuck finished first, second and third, respectively.
