Lady Chiefs thwarted by South Suburban again, fall in Harper Tournament finale

The Lady Chiefs fell just short of capturing the Harper College Tournament, losing for the third time this season to South Suburban College. Waubonsee defeated Black Hawk East College to move into the tournament championship match. The Lady Chiefs beat the Warriors 25-14, 25-20 and 25-12 to improve to 18-3 overall on the season. Erin Bowe tallied 11 kills and 11 digs to pace Waubonsee. Ellie Martin recorded 30 assists, Faith Montalbano added 11 kills and Lexi McKenzie posted 16 digs.
The Lady Chiefs then squared off against the Bulldogs for the third time this season, and South Suburban prevailed again for the third time. However, this meeting was much closer than the previous two as the Bulldogs narrowly escaped with a five-game victory. Waubonsee won the opener 25-18 before South Suburban evened things up with a 25-16 triumph in game two. The Lady Chiefs then pulled out an exciting third game 30-28. The Bulldogs then edged Waubonsee (18-4) in an equally thrilling fourth game 29-27. South Suburban (18-5) then held on for a 15-13 victory in the fifth game to take the match. Katherine Daley booked 20 kills, while Bowe contributed 17 kills and 17 digs. Martin tallied 54 assists and 20 digs. McKenzie added 39 digs, Kaitlyn Richter chipped in with 24 digs and Shayna Tucek registered 18 digs as Waubonsee compiled a season-high 132 digs for the match.
