Chiefs put the squeeze on nationally-ranked Cobras
Opponent: Cobras at Chiefs
3 - 0 (W)
The Chiefs closed out the regular season with perhaps their best game of the season. Waubonsee dominated nationally-ranked Parkland College en route to a 3-0 victory for their 12th consecutive win. The 11th-ranked Chiefs out shot the 17th-ranked Cobras 17-7 to improve to 15-1 overall. Diego Munoz got the Chiefs on the scoreboard before even five minutes had gone off the clock. Alberto Lopez set up Munoz for his ninth goal of the season at 40:05 of the first period to get Waubonsee started. Lopez and Munoz were both credited with an assist when Victor Corral netted his sixth goal of the year with 17:30 remaining in the first half. The Chiefs carried that 2-0 lead into the break and then added to it midway through the second half to clinch the match. Lopez booked an unassisted goal at the 20:08 mark for his team-leading 16th goal of the season, tying him for 12th nationally in goals scored among NJCAA Division I players. Luis Gallardo made a couple of outstanding stops down the stretch to secure the Chiefs' sixth shutout. Gallardo recorded seven saves for the match, giving him 103 saves on the year to tie him for 10th nationally among keepers.
