Chiefs harvest victory at the Corn Crib behind Lopez and Conley

Alberto Lopez and Bernie Conley each scored a pair of goals to lead Waubonsee to a 4-2 victory over Heartland Community College at the Corn Crib Stadium in Normal. The Chiefs tallied all their goals in the first half to grab a commanding 4-1 lead. Just three and a half minutes into the contest Lopez netted his first goal off a penalty kick. The Hawks temporarily tied the match at one midway through the first half when Jose Gabriel Puga got one past Chiefs' keeper Luis Gallardo. Waubonsee regained the lead for good when Conley booked his first goal of the game with help from Victor Corral at the 16:28 mark of the first period. The Chiefs then broke the game open as Lopez recorded his seventh goal of the season with an assist from David Hernandez nine minutes later. Conley added some icing to the Chiefs' victory cake with his second goal of the game with only two seconds before the halftime buzzer. Heartland tallied a goal eight minutes into the second half goal, but never got closer as Waubonsee out shot the Hawks 24 to 12. Gallardo registered 10 saves in the net for the 15th-ranked Chiefs, who improved to 9-1 overall.
