Chiefs open season with thrilling overtime win at Oakton
Opponent: Chiefs at Raiders
1 - 0 (W) (OT)
In a rematch of last fall's showdown for the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) title, Waubonsee again prevailed over perennial league power Oakton Community College. The Chiefs opened their 2013 season and defense of last year's ISCC championship with a thrilling, 1-0 overtime victory in Des Plaines. As expected, it was a hard fought game throughout between the two top teams in the ISCC. Oakton entered the day ranked 16th nationally in the NJCAA's Division I Pre-Season poll, while the Chiefs were also named in the top-30. Nearly a year ago Waubonsee snapped Oakton's 34-game conference unbeaten streak, preventing the Raiders from capturing their fifth consecutive league title via a 2-1 win in Sugar Grove. This time neither team could get on the scoreboard through 90 minutes of regualtion play as Waubonsee out shot the Raiders 13-9. However, just 3:10 into overtime the Chiefs' Victor Corral took a feed from teammate Diego Munoz and got a shot past Oakton keeper Justin Odozor for the game-winner. Luis Gallardo recorded nine saves in goal for Waubonsee to notch his first shutout.
