Rock Valley College
Top-ranked RVC pulls away in the second half to drop Lady Chiefs to 9-5 overall
Opponent: Golden Eagles at Lady Chiefs
57 - 98 (L)
The Lady Chiefs stayed within striking distance of the NJCAA's top-ranked Division III team for a little while. However, Rock Valley College pulled away in the second half to coast to a 98-57 victory to spoil Waubonsee's Spirit Day festivities. The two-time defending NJCAA Division III National Champions held only a four-point (32-28) lead with seven minutes remaining in the first half. The Golden Eagles eventually headed into the locker room at the intermission with a 49-37 lead in large part due to a 28-15 rebounding advantage, including a 17-5 mark in offensive boards. With the game being televised "live" on Waubonsee's website, Rock Valley (7-3) used its depth, quickness and relentless defensive pressure to blow the game open in the second half. Waubonsee shot just 19 percent (6 of 31) from the floor and committed 17 turnovers in second half as the Golden Eagles out scored the Lady Chiefs 49-20.
Emma Darby was a force for the Lady Chiefs (9-5) finishing with a double-double. The 6'0" sophomore center booked 20 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and blocked two shots. Despite being hampered by foul troubles, Ashley Wilk tallied 14 points and snagged eight boards on the way to making all eight of her free throw attempts. Bailey Klaas chipped in with 11 points, LaDesha Nelson added eight points, and Alexis Nelson handed out three assists in limited minutes due to lingering soreness in her left knee.
