Parkland races out to big lead early on en route to capturing the Chiefs' Invitational Tournament title over the Lady Chiefs for the third year in a row

The Lady Chiefs came out flat in the championship game of the Chiefs' Invitational Tournament and could never recover. Parkland College defeated Waubonsee in the title match for the third straight year, coasting to an 84-67 victory. Parkland led just 20-19 midway through the first half before a 17-0 run by the Cobras midway through the first half broke the game open. The Lady Chiefs committed 13 first half turnovers and the Cobras shot 67 percent (22 of 33) from the field on the way to building a 47-32 lead at the break. The Lady Chiefs never got closer in the second half than a 13-point deficit, while Parkland grabbed its biggest lead of 25 points (75-50) with seven and a half minutes left.
Alexis Nelson paced the Lady Chiefs' attack with 20 points, while Bailey Klaas contributed five assists, four steals and eight points. Ashley Wilk hauled down 11 rebounds, including nine offensive boards, to go with dishing out three assists. The trio were all chosen to the All-Tournament team. The Cobras' Erin Kelley led all scorers with 23 points to go along with five assists and two steals on the way to being the named the tournament's Most Valuable Player. Hannah Wascher, who also was selected to the All-Tournament team booked 19 points, grabbed seven boards, blocked three shots and made three steals. A third Parkland player, Jereica Hawkins, was also tabbed to the All-Tournament team after hauling in eight boards and handing out eight assists in the title game.
