7th-ranked South Suburban pulls away from Chiefs in second half

Nationally-ranked South Suburban College pulled away in the second half to beat the Chiefs 73-57 in South Holland. Waubonsee trailed the Bulldogs by just four points (31-27) at halftime and stayed within striking distance of the NJCAA's seventh-ranked  Division II team throughout most of the second half. The Chiefs (1-1) were down by six points with only three minutes remaining when they let South Suburban pull away down the stretch. Offensive rebounding was a key to the outcome of the contest as the Bulldogs ripped away 16 boards on the offensive end, on their way to a 39-23 rebounding advantage for the game. South Suburban also finished the game shooting 46 percent (31 of 68) from the floor, compared to 34 percent (21 of 61) for the Chiefs. Ricardo Martin led Waubonsee, ranked 11th nationally in the NJCAA's Division II pre-season poll, with 16 points and five rebounds. Josh McAuley added 14 points and six boards, while Raheem Jackson gave the Chiefs a trio of double-digit scorers with 11 points to go along with his six steals and four assists.
